CO2 CAPTURE & STORAGE
Enhanced Oil Recovery
LOCATION: Canada
MARKET: CO2 Capture & Storage
THE CHALLENGE
Carbon Dioxide is a proven solvent that is used to provide incremental oil production in Cold Heavy Oil Wells with Sand (CHOPS). The upstream client has used this type of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) to realize upwards of 2000 bbl/d of incremental production from Brownfield areas and desired to increase the CO2 supply to their existing EOR production program. The expansion included the addition of a Greenfield Facility that was to be designed as a template for future developments.
THE SOLUTION
Engineering:
- Leveraged prior project experience with CO2 EOR
- Providing engineering support for upgrades to the following assets
- Central Facilities & Compressor Stations
- Pipelines & Gathering Systems
- Well Pads & CO2 Sourcing
- Developed templated and standardized designs for all areas of the project
- Process Flow
- Materials
- Instrumentation
- Equipment
- Process Modules
Operations:
- System upgrades designed to support integrated production and gathering
- Communication of Well Pads to the Central Processing Facility
- Supported compressor optimization efforts of existing assets
- Use of Observer Wells for monitoring reservoir leakage and CO2 Sequestration
THE RESULTS:
- Developed capacity of 340 MTPD CO2 injection across 8 wells for a TIC of $21MM
* Realized 640 bbl/d of incremental production - Planned for expansion to add 710 MTPD CO2 injection across 12 wells for a TIC of $14MM
* Expected 960 bbl/d of incremental production - Allowed improvement to well performance with CO2 product
